Transferring projects between devices

In the current version, Infinite Painter stores the projects only locally, on the device where you have created them. If, for any reason, you need to transfer the projects to another device, you need to follow this procedure:

On the source device

  • In the Project Gallery, identify the project to be transferred. Long press on its thumbnail to open the Project Options popup. Pick Share from the menu.

  • The project will be saved in Painter Project Transfer format (PNTRPNTRPNTR ("Painter Project Transfer File") is a special proprietary file format for transferring Infinite Painter projects between devices or for backup.Learn more) in //Documents/Infinite Painter/Projects folder.

  • Using a file manager (like the Files application), navigate to this folder (or select the .pntr file from Recent files category if available). Using the file manager tools, send this file to the other (target) device. Refer to your device’s documentation if you are not sure how to do that.

  • On the target device

Make sure that the exported .pntr file has been successfully received by the target device.

  • Open Infinite Painter.

  • In the Home screen, tap the “FROM IMAGE” button (see New Project from an image). Use the Files option.

  • In the file manager screen, locate the .pntr file and select it.

  • The project will be imported, added to the Project gallery and opened for edition.

This will restore the project on the target device with all the original features and settings, with all the saved versions, the timelapse recording, reference images etc.

Due to technical limitations, you cannot “open” the PNTR file outside Infinite Painter.

    Alternative workflow

The procedure described above exports the project with all the data it contains. This may be a lot of data, as the projects may contain time-lapse recording an multiple archive copies of the artwork in the version history storage. The resulting PNTR file may be very large (counted even in hundreds of megabytes).

If you want to control what is being exported, open the project on the source device and use Options menu/Export command. In the Export panel, pick the Painter Project (PNTRPNTRPNTR ("Painter Project Transfer File") is a special proprietary file format for transferring Infinite Painter projects between devices or for backup.Learn more) as the export format and then check the options below.

You may exclude from the exported PNTR file:

  • Time-lapse recordingTime-lapse recordingA video recording depicting the creative process in Infinite Painter. The video shows only the canvas (not the interface) and it is accelerated to fit all the process to a preset duration. Time-lapse recording is recorded and saved per project.Learn more (video) data

  • Project version historyProject version historyProject version history is a safety feature in Infinite Painter that stores a preset number of previous versions of the project. Each time the project is saved, the app does not overwrite the previous version, but keeps both. In case of a technical problem during saving or of a creative error, previous versions may be accessed and restored.Learn more data (only the latest version will be exported)

  • After that, export the project and transfer the PNTR file as described above.

Note that in the current version of the app the projects may only be exported and transferred one-by-one.

    Caution:

The exported PNTR files may be extremely large. Control the amount of free storage on your device. Delete files that have been successfully transferred to save storage space.
